Interacting with InDesign Server without SOAP

$

Hi,

The documentation in IDS SDK tells that one can interact using Javascript with IDS without using SOAP.

How can one interact using Javascript and without SOAP?

I know that with Extendscript one can write scripts and execute it directly.

But with a simple jsx file only how do I interact with server?

Distributed Copy Editor - openStory failed

Hi there

Not sure if this is in the right place but here it goes.

Today I found Distributed Copy Editor 1.0 SDK and it looks excactly like what I need.

I've followed all the steps in the getting-started-guide document to set up the server, client and testdrive up to Test Driving SurikogiFlex step 3.

This is where I run into an error "Error Opening Document "insert document name here"" in the webbrowser and an "openStory failed in InDesignServer" error in the Tomcat service running the webserver. The images below show the errors.

openStory-Error.jpgTomcat-IDServer.jpg

The troubleshooting section of  the getting-started-guide document does not mention anything about this so I'm not sure what is causing this.

So I’m wondering if there is anyone out there that might know how I can fix this.

Some general information:

  • It does not look like the IndesignServer is receiving any requests.
  • I’m trying to run this on two Win8 systems both give the exact same error.
  • The Distributed Copy Editor 1.0 SDK has been released in 2009. In the getting-started-guide they say it’s only been tested on XP and might not work on Vista. However I no longer have a XP system so I can only test it on Win7 or 8. Though I run in no compiling errors so I believe this is no issue.

Is there anyone out there who can get this to work, if so I’d like to hear how and on what set-up.

If anyone would like to take a look, this is the link to the SDK.

http://www.adobe.com/devnet/indesign/sdk/dce/eula.html

Thanks in advance.

Hi Detlef,

    For offline installation scenarios of InDesignserver, if activation is not done while installation, then as a user we need a utility named "Adobe Provisioning Toolkit Enterprise Toolkit (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/creativesuite/enterprisedeployment.html) " for activating InDesignServer.

For usage of Provisioning Toolkit, please refer "http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/c reativesuite/pdfs/Adobe_Provisioning_Toolkit_Enterprise_Edition_v5.pdf"

Using the specified utility, 1st generate the Request Code, use this Request code to generate a response code on site "http://www.adobe.com/go/getactivated". Then use that response code in the Provisioning toolkit, to activate InDesignServer.

Please, do follow following steps:-

  • Now type the following command in that Terminal/Command Prompt window
  • Set directory to adobe_prtk and type below command

                      adobe_prtk --tool=Type1Exception --generate --serial=1111111111111111111111111 --leid=InDesignServer-CS6-Win\Mac-GM

Ø  Login with your adobe ID and password the click on “Generate Response Code”.

Ø  Now enter Request code and Serial number (using which you have generated Request Code), click “Generate Response Code” button.

Ø  It will give you a Response code, eg: -jnGVmMxU0IkIBv324qhALnT2Yt9RhyCBr8hTtJBAtBs=

Ø  Now type the following command in command prompt/terminal.

                   adobe_prtk --tool=Type1Exception --accept --serial=11111111111111111111 --responsecode=jnGVmMxU0IkIBv324qhALnT2 Yt9RhyCBr8hTtJBAtBs= --leid=InDesignServer-CS6-Mac-GM

you will get the following message:

                Copyright 2012 Adobe Systems Incorporated

                All rights reserved.

                Return Code = 0

It shows that the InDesign Server has been successfully activated

I know this is very outdated, but in case someone else sees this.

I tried to see if there's anywhere to put crossdomain.xml.  Nope.

I tried to setup proxy to direct 80 and indesign port differently, but it still searches localhost at 80port

Perhaps it is a security feature that doesn't allow indesign server to be called publicly on the web?

I am facing difficulties activating InDesign CS6 server

I'd like to share with you my frustration about InDesign CS6 Server which tries to do the very same as shown above, but apparenty noone at Adobe did think about the fact that ID Server has NO GUI. So as a customer youre left with an Installation that provides NO means for later offline activation, but provides the very same link at installation, basically guiding you through a process that can not be accomplished with ID Server by any means.

Moreover, the Installer claims there is a 7-day grace period until you MUST have activated your license but even with entering a valid code the Server wont start from second ONE, stating "Adobe InDesign Server is not properly licensed and will now quit". This sort of misdesign is what makes customers furious! And then they wonder why people use circumvention technologies.

Update

Tried to set up aVirtualBox with Win XP to test the project as closely to the system requirements as possible.

However, I am unable to obtain a trial version of Indesign Server CS4.

So no luck down that road.

Currently I am debugging in eclipse to find where the error is triggered for more information.

Following the instructions here:

http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/c reativesuite/pdfs/Adobe_Provisioning_Toolkit_Enterprise_Edition_v5.pdf

I run the following command:

./adobe_prtk --tool=StartTrial --leid=InDesignServer-CS6-Mac-GM

This is the response:

          Copyright 2012 Adobe Systems Incorporated

          All rights reserved.

StartTrial Successful

Return Code = 0

Then I go run InDesign Server:

ERROR[server] Adobe InDesign Server is not properly licensed and will now quit.

Usage: InDesignServer [options]

Couldn't Adobe come up with a sligtly less confusing trial process?

INDS CS6 - PDF Export at High Quality issues with Gradients.

$

Hi all,

We're noticing that on our PDF exports from our INDS instances we're seeing that gradients are showing up when the PDF is printed. You can visibly see the gradient lines. We have our INDS set for 'High Quality Print' and upon viewing the PDF in your browser it looks fine but when you print the PDF you can see the gradient lines.

We've exported the same IDML's directly from InDesign to PDF to Print and the gradients do not show up.

Is there a ExportPDF option we are missing on the InDesign Server that I need to tweak to make these gradients smooth and disappear?

Re: InDesign server CS 5.5 - app.scriptArgs.get doesn't work in jsx script or simpleclient problem

I am having the same issue. I am pssing thru SOAP call through

     sampleclient.java -host localhost:12345 "c:\myJSXScript.jsx" myXml="myXmlLocation"

JSX:

function main() {

    try {

        var myInDesignXml;

        app.consoleout("isDefined:=" +app.scriptArgs.isDefined("myXml"));

        if (app.scriptArgs.isDefined("myXml")) {

          myInDesignXml = app.scriptArgs.getValue("myXml")

        }

        app.consoleout("myXml:=" + myXml);

        }

    } catch (e) {

        app.consoleout('General Exception');

    }

    return result;

}

main();

Output:

isDefined:=false

I should get the text that we have assigned to myXml param.

Please Help on this.

JK

Documentation or Books

Hi all,

I'm looking for documentation about InDesign Server. I'm not so bad in JavaScript and Java …

I already readed the documentation of Adobe about this server.

Do you know a good book about this subject or a kind of training?

I don't see any inherent problem with the jsx.

I suggest you debug the code with ExtendScript Toolkit with your InDesign server instance selected in the dropdown of the toolkit.

This would allow you to find the source of error.

Do you have multiple versions of InDesign installed on your machine?

Also, check the APTEE documentation to verify if you are using the adobe_prk tool properly.

Let me know what arguments you passed with adobe_prk.

Hi guys

It 's not a real question for developer. It's more for server administrator.

My company is using InDesign server. I am looking for a tool to monitor the inDesign server activity.

Is it possible to see what the server is doing. What part of  a build / rendering script is running ..

I have seen a inDesign server MMC snapin is available. Is this a tool to monitor or to define some setup ?

Thanks for your help.
